What to Expect

Visiting a new church can make some people nervous because they just have no idea what it’s going to be like. We know that you may have several questions about what to expect when visiting First Church, so we’ve tried to answer some of those potential questions below. Of course, if you have a question that we haven’t answered here, you can fill out the contact form at the bottom of this page, and we’ll get back with you promptly.

Take a look at these Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) to get a better glimpse of a Sunday morning.

FAQ'S

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER THE SERVICE?

When you arrive at our church, you should expect to be greeted warmly. Once the service starts, we sing worshipful music and participate in a printed bulletin that explains what happens next. Our worship service lasts around an hour. When the service is over, our folks are so friendly that they’ve been known to stick around and talkin the Gathering Space for a while. That’s a great time to get to know people!

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

At First Church, we try to be more concerned with the heart than with the outward appearance. Some men wear a coat and tie and some ladies wear dresses, while others wear blue jeans. Some people wear dress shoes, and others wear boots or tennis shoes. In short, feel free to dress however you feel comfortable!

WHAT'S AVAILABLE FOR MY KIDS?

At First Church we know that your children are your priority, and we want you to know that they are our priority as well!  Our kid's program is available every Sunday and offers something for children of all ages.

During Sunday School and all worship services, we have excellent childcare volunteers who will provide a safe, fun environment for newborns to young toddlers. We also have Children’s Church during our Sunday morning worship service! Children’s Church is for children aged 3 years old up to 5th grade. They join us in the sanctuary to participate in singing and then are dismissed to the children’s area where volunteers lead them in an age-appropriate time of Bible-learning, singing, and fun.

9:15 Service

  • We have a nursery available for infants up to the age of 2.
  • Classes are available for kids  3 years of age through 5th grade.

10:45 Service

  • We have a nursery available for infants up to the age of 2.
  • Classes are available for kids 3 years of age through 5th grade.

WILL I BE EXPECTED TO GIVE?

Guests are welcome to give to help support the mission of our church, but you are by no means required or expected to give. You’re our guest and simply having you join us is your gift to us. If you believe on church is a good match for you to grow in your relationship with God, one of the pastors can help you learn more about giving at First Church.

ANYTHING ELSE?

We probably haven't answered everything, so if you have any other questions at all, please feel free to contact us.

We offer two distinct worship gatherings every Sunday! Both services provide the sacrament of Baptism upon request and Communion is served on the first Sunday of every month and other service when appropriate.

Modern Worship - (Sunday at 10:45am) is the use of contemporary worship music in an informal setting connecting the heart or spirit of worship with the truth about God supported by a Praise Team, video, readings and prayers.

Traditional Worship - (Sunday at 9:15am) adheres to the liturgical year reflecting the glory of the God by incorporating procession, prayers, creeds the hymns of the church accompanied by choir, organ and piano and the use of an order of service that are part of our theological heritage as people called Methodists.

OTHER THINGS TO KNOW ...

Baptism is offered to children, youth and adults as an expression of our Wesleyan Methodist heritage. To learn more or to schedule one of these in our services,  contact our church office and they will put you in touch with one of our pastors.

Holy Communion is observed in both of our services on the first Sunday of each month, and on some other occasions during the year. We practice an "open table" where all are encouraged and invited to share in this sacrament together.

Miss a Sunday? Maybe you couldn't make it to worship this week because you were on vacation or recovering from an illness? We understand. We missed seeing you, but you can still see us! Check out our online sermon videos to view a message you might have missed.
