Throughout Scripture we find many different prophecies and promises about the Messiah. We also see a variety of names and titles given to the Messiah. Some of the most recognizable of these are found in Isaiah’s words to the people of Israel. In Isaiah 9, we find a prophecy about the coming of the Messiah that promises that he will be a leader who will change everything, and will lead the people in the ways that bring them back into a right relationship with God. We encounter these titles for the Messiah: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. During this season of Advent, we will explore the meaning of these titles given to Messiah, and will look at how this changes our experience of the promised hope, love, joy, and peace that Jesus brings into the world.
