Paul's words are familiar: "a man reaps what he sows." We usually take that to mean people get what they deserve, and part of us wants it to be true. But Genesis 37 complicates that reading in ways we usually don’t consider. Everyone in Jacob's family is sowing to the flesh, and the consequences are real, and everyone suffers. Paul’s words in Galatians 6 point us somewhere deeper, somewhere that is often uncomfortable: the one who sows to the flesh reaps corruption from the flesh.
